USUAA Government Relations

USUAA hires a student to serve as the Government Relations Director. This student serves as a representative for all UAA students and USUAA entities on local and state legislative issues. It is the primary purpose of the Government Relations Director to provide UAA students with information and opportunities to become aware and involved in the municipal and state governing process. The Government Relations Director also leads the USUAA Advocacy Team and chairs the Legislative Affairs Committee.

The 2009-10 USUAA Government Relations Director is Nickolas Moe.
Biography
Nick Moe is currently a Political Science Major in his junior year at UAA. He was born and raised in Alaska and has over three years experience in the field of Government Relations. His previous work experience includes working in the Mayor's office in Anchorage under Senator Mark Begich's administration and working as Legislative Aide for State Senator Johnny Ellis. When not advocating for students or studying for his classes, Nick can often be found hiking one of Anchorage's many mountain trails.

Juneau Legislative Advocacy Team

Purpose
The USUAA Legislative Advocacy Team travels to Juneau each to meet with legislators, lobbyists, and key personnel to voice the concerns of the UAA student body on various legislative issues. Before traveling to Juneau the Advocacy Team holds programs and meets with UAA students to gather stories and information that will enhance the Team’s ability to represent the student body. This information also helps the Team establish a consistent message and/or theme for the trip. Team members also work with the UA Coalition of Student Leaders and other UA student advocacy groups to support funding for the University system and higher education in the state of Alaska.
