Kachemak Bay Campus - Security Report

CAMPUS CRIME STATISTICS

Providing a safe instructional, living, and working environment is an important goal at UAA and its community campuses. UAA is required by federal law to report crimes that occur on campus and at off-campus locations where University classes and other sponsored activities occur. Those statistics are available by clicking on the links below.

RELATED CAMPUS SECURITY REPORT INFORMATION

The Kachemak Bay Campus is relatively safe, but rarely, crimes do occur here. The Homer Police Department (HPD), with jurisdiction over the campus in Homer, has commissioned police officers and dispatchers available when needed. Although campus administration and the HPD can do certain things to minimize criminal activities, they cannot prevent these crimes without the full support of students, faculty, and staff.

When students, staff, faculty or visitors have a safety concern, witness or experience a breech of the Code of Conduct or a crime, campus administrators are the first point of contact. The campus director, student services coordinator, or other available staff or faculty should be notified immediately. If no University employee is available, the Homer Police Department should be contacted. The campus administration solicits your active support in reporting all crimes and incidents.

Campus facilities are accessible to members of the community and to guests and visitors during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, and for limited hours on Saturday and Sunday, while school is in session. During semester breaks, hours of access may be greatly reduced. Most buildings are closed to all but faculty and staff for University-observed holidays.

There is no on-campus housing. Students should contact the Homer Police Department or the Alaska State Troopers for assistance when needed from their residence. The Dean of Students Office provides on-going safety information publications. In addition, safety procedures for students can be found in the Kachemak Bay Campus Student Handbook.

Public telephones are located at both campus buildings and were recently replaced as a high priority safety issue. Students are encouraged to walk together to the parking lot, particularly at night, and may request an escort from campus staff or faculty.
