Presentations and Conferences

Participating in research is just one part of undergraduate scholarship. UAA offers students several opportunities to hone public speaking and presentation skills and to take their work out into the world.

• OURS Undergraduate Research & Discovery Symposium (April)
  A series of events is held each April to celebrate undergraduate achievements throughout the university. The Symposium is an opportunity for students in all disciplines to present and display their research and creative work to the university and the community. Featured events include the Undergraduate Research Awards ceremony and project presentations, the Student Showcase academic conference and music gala, and the annual Juried Student Art Exhibit. The Symposium also features a keynote lecture by a distinguished researcher.  All students are invited to showcase their research at the Poster Fair.  Abstracts are due April 2 if you are interested in displaying your work.  Please submit your abstract online. 
  
  
• UAA Student Showcase (April)
  The UAA Student showcase program highlights the extraordinary work of students throughout the University of Alaska Anchorage system and creates an opportunity for dialogue among university and community members. Students submit their best work for evaluation by objective faculty members from their discipline; selected works are presented at the Conference; and distinguished community members are invited to the Conference to evaluate, critique, and comment on students' works. • Behavioral Sciences Conference of the North (April)
  Organized by UAA’s Department of Psychology, the Behavioral Sciences Conference of the North encourages student research activity and features contemporary research in the behavioral sciences. For the past 22 years, this conference has served as a liaison between UAA and the human services community and has provided continuing education to professionals and students through speakers, panel discussions and pre-convention workshops. • Social Work Showcase (April)
  The School of Social Work hosts the Social Work Showcase the last Friday of Spring semester, giving MSW and BSW students the opportunity to present research projects they have completed in their respective programs.  Undergraduate students in the BSW Honors Program present the work from SWK A463 Social Work Senior Honors Research Project and MSW students present their work from SWK A698 MSW Research Project.  Presentations are 15-20 minutes in length, with peers, faculty and community members providing feedback to presenters.  This popular event gives students a chance to spotlight their work and thank advisors, project collaborators and sponsors for their role in advancing their learning.  For more information, contact the UAA School of Social Work at (907) 786-6900.
