Faculty Exemplar Awards Nomination Form

These awards recognize faculty members who have demonstrated long-term, exemplary mentoring of undergraduate research and creative projects.  Their contributions to success are hallmarks of inspired teaching and active learning.

Nominations are due no later than Monday, March 10, 2008.

Nominations should include:

1.  Completion of this electronic form nominating the faculty member
2.  The CV of the faculty member being nominated should be emailed to research@uaa.alaska.edu
3.  Other evidence of undergraduate mentoring, if not included on the CV
(If the nominator cannot submit a CV, one will be requested from the nominee, but the nomination may not be considered if the CV is not submitted in a timely fashion.)

What is mentoring?  Faculty mentors assist students in making the transition from classroom learning to real world applications, working with students outside of the classroom setting.  Well-mentored students develop the confidence needed to pursue successful careers.  Close interaction among students, faculty, and other research or creative personnel exposes students to scholarly processes, methodologies, and to higher levels of learning.

Briefly describe the reasons that this nominee is deserving of an Exemplar Award (250 words or less).
