Dr. Arlon Tussing, research professor of economics in the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), will receive the 2005 Senior Fellow Award from the United States Association for Energy Economics at the North American Conference of the International Association for Energy Economics at Bloomfield, CO, on September 18. Tussing is an economic and policy analyst in the fields of energy, public utilities, the environment, natural resources, national and regional economic development, and corporate and government finance.
The award is given annually “in recognition of outstanding and distinguished service to the Association and the field of energy economics.” According to a member of the selection committee, Tussing is recognized for “a career of exceptional insight and foresight regarding the evolution of energy markets, both in the U.S. and globally.”
Tussing has worked with the University of Alaska for over 40 years and with ISER since its inception. He is currently assisting with the formulation of an energy-resource development strategy for Russia’s Chukotka Autonomous Region directly across the Bering Strait from Alaska. This work is supported by a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development to UAA and the two predominantly Eskimo boroughs of Arctic Alaska. Tussing is also involved with Arctic research at the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge University (UK).
Tussing received a B.A. in Liberal Arts from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in Education from Oregon State University. He earned a Ph.D. at the University of Washington and has engaged in advanced study at the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. |
