New Campus Signs Create Distinctive Image

By: John Q. Dede  Jul 28, 2004

UAA is installing new signs — featuring the university’s distinctive “swoosh” — around campus this summer! You may have noticed some of them have already gone up.

Their bold colors and typeface project the excitement of our vibrant and creative institution while reducing confusion and helping students and visitors find their way around campus. Buildings are identified by signs at eye level, and informational kiosks with area maps may be found on east and west campus.

As part of the wayfinding project, some building names have been changed to more accurately reflect their actual use. These name changes were developed in winter and spring 2004 with input from faculty, staff and students.

The list of new building names may be found here. The installation of the new signage is not complete.

Only the major buildings will be addressed this summer. More signs will be put up next year (the exact number of signs will depend on funding).

All these changes are part of a strategy to place UAA on the higher education map as a distinctive, dynamic and progressive institution, entering the 21st century with renewed energy and fresh ideas.
