Campus Kickoff 2005 By: John T. Callahan Aug 18, 2005 Welcome to UAA! Kick off the new school year with a fun day of activities Saturday, Aug. 27
The Campus Kick-Off welcomes UAA students back to campus in real Seawolf style. Events include the "Taste of UAA" resource fair, a barbeque, carnival, live local music, and a comedy sampler starring Alonzo Bodden, winner of “Last Comic Standing.” All entertainment and attractions are free to UAA students and their families.
To top it off, we'll draw door prizes -- including two 3-credit tuition waivers! Come in your Seawolf colors and clothes to be eligible for prizes during the Kickoff.
In addition to all the fun, you can pick up your books and supplies and even sell back books at the UAA Campus Bookstore on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- maybe even a little later. And you can get your UAA Internet and Blackboard ID at the Student Union computer lab from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Here's what awaits you at the Campus Kickoff 2005:
The "Taste of UAA" resource fair • 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
The excitement starts with the "Taste of UAA" resource fair in the Wells Fargo Sports Complex and Student Union from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. With more than 50 different UAA clubs, organizations, university departments and programs, the Taste is a great way to learn more about UAA. You can also enjoy the many recreational activities offered by the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, including swimming and ice skating.
Barbeque • 4:30 – 7 p.m.
Hungry? Enjoy a burger, pasta salad, chips, cookies and a drink for only $5. And, if you are caught showing your Seawolf spirit, one of our Spirit Watchers may give you a prize. So wear your most spirited UAA Green and Gold to the barbeque, The Taste, or the carnival and get noticed!
The Carnival • 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
The carnival will feature a dunk tank, palm reader, carnival games, inflatable obstacle course and much more. There will be activities for little ones too, including George the Clown, a marionette show, and balloon animals. While at the carnival, don’t forget to visit with Spirit the Seawolf, who will be on hand for photographs to help you capture memories of the day.
KRUA Rocks the Quad • 7 – 8 p.m.
Kick back on the Cuddy lawn as KRUA Rocks the Quad. The show will open with the quirky, indie stylings of singer-songwriter Parker Longbow. Longbow also moonlights as the frontman for local band, Uncle Jesse. KRUA's own Hawkins Wright will top things off. Known for his soft yet varied delivery and adept musicianship, Wright is always a crowd pleaser. Don't be surprised if he brings along a couple of friends, as he rarely travels alone!
Concert Board Comedy Sampler • 8:30 p.m.
The UAA Concert Board presents a hilarious comedy triple-header free for UAA students, faculty, staff, and their guests. The Comedy Sampler features:
-
- Alonzo Bodden: Bodden’s spontaneous wit makes every show unique. His sense of humor has him sharing his observation, frustrations and outright pain on everything from shopping to sports, from politics to parents and every man's lament, being seen by women as "just a friend." Boden’s appeal has captured audiences from the Apollo Theatre to The Conan O'Brien Show and earned him the title as winner of “Last Comic Standing 3.”
-
- Rob Paravonian: Paravonian onstage personality is friendly and laid back and his material is sharp, clean, and intelligent. Whether he's singing his own songs or deconstructing the ones on the charts, Paravonian uses music to get the laughs. Bringing to the stage the best of both worlds, Paravonian is a top notch comic with impeccable timing, and a solid musician with extremely funny songs.
-
- Kristian Vallee: Drawing upon his years of attempting to mold the minds of middle school students, Vallee delivers a vivid and hilarious portrayal of this sometimes embarrassing, sometimes uncanny but always entertaining world that most of us would rather forget. Vallee, who recently appeared on Comedy Central's Premium Blend and The Tonight Show, can be seen sharing his sarcasm and cultural criticism at clubs and colleges across the county.
Fred Meyer College Night • 11:30 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Close out your night with a shopping spree at Fred Meyer on Northern Lights and Benson. In addition to great discounts on all the things you need to start the year off right, Fred Meyer will be offering door prize giveaways.
