Bureaucracy Busters Becomes The Idea Bank By: Lori Keim Sep 22, 2005 Last spring, UAA asked “Why?” we do the things the way we do. In a campus-wide initiative, everyone was asked to think about the way they worked, the procedures and policies in place in their departments, and identify those that worked well and those that could be changed or eradicated to help UAA work better and more efficiently.
The Bureaucracy Busters committee received hundreds of suggestions. After weeding out duplicates and non-suggestions, 290 remained. Suggestions were then assigned to various functional department heads for investigation. Those department heads reported to the Bureaucracy Busters committee the results of their investigations. After working all summer, the committee is proud to release the results to the community. Everyone agrees, the Bureaucracy Busters campaign was a huge success.
Bureaucracy Busters has evolved into the Idea Bank, a permanent quality improvement program. You can access the results of the Bureaucracy Busters exercise at www.uaa.alaska.edu/ideabank.
