UAA students and staff organize fun run to raise money for disaster relief

By: Lori Keim  Oct 25, 2005

Join the UAA and Anchorage communities for the Hurricane Hustle, a fund raiser for the American red Cross 80/20 Disaster Relief Fund, on Saturday, October 29. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the Commons of the UAA Residence Halls. The 5K Fun Run/Walk will start at 10 a.m. in the cul-de-sac at the end of Sharon Gagnon Lane, off Bragaw, where it will also end. There is no set entry fee. Instead, organizers are asking people to donate to the American Red Cross 80/20 disaster relief fund. Red Cross personnel and volunteers will be on hand to collect the funds raised. Megan Baldino is the guest runner. Megan has just completed her second marathon in Chicago.

The course will go around Goose Lake and back with a UPD officer standing at the intersection of Bragaw and Providence Drive. Snacks and drinks and an awards presentation will take place in the lower dining room in the UAA Commons at the end of the Fun Run. The race is sponsored by UAA Residence Life and Student Activities, and the Anchorage Running club. Contact Race Director Jewel Shibley at 751-7223.
