University Guitar Ensemble in Concert

By: Penny Graber  Nov 16, 2005

The UAA Department of Music presents a special recital by the University Guitar Ensemble on Saturday, November 19 in the Fine Arts Recital Hall, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Professor Rozanne Wilson-Marsh, the ensemble will perform favorite works by nineteenth century guitar composers Ferrer, Arcas, and Coste; contemporary compositions by Kleynjans and Duarte; the music of Augustín Barrios; and adaptations of well-known works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Tchaikovsky, all arranged for ensemble performance. Individual members of the group have also been chosen to perform selected solos and duets as part of the evening’s program.

Monies raised by this special concert will be used to meet travel fees and festival expenses for the ten members of the ensemble, who will compete in a National Guitar Ensemble Festival at the University of Texas Brownsville in April, 2006.   Now in its fifth season and sponsored by the D’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts, the festival will feature master classes by international concert guitarist and recording artist David Russell.  UAA’s ensemble will be the first from Alaska to compete in the event.   Tickets to Saturday’s recital are available at the door.  Prices are $10 general admission; $5 for students, seniors and military; and $2 for UAA students with a Wolfcard.  For additional information about the event, please call the Department of Music at 786-1698 or 786-1595.
