A Little Night Music

"A Little Night Music" is the UAA Department of Theatre & Dance’s second production of the Mainstage season. Inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film "Smiles of a Summer Night," this musical features the music and lyrics of the great Stephen Sondheim ("West Side Story", "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", "Into the Woods"), and is based on the book by Hugh Wheeler. "A Little Night Music" has received numerous awards, including the Drama Critics and Tony for Best Musical.

Set in Sweden, this delicate waltz of a play has a wonderful story, complex characters, a warm setting, comedy, poignancy, a rich musical score, and above all – meaning, for who hasn’t created their own well of chaos in life, then struggled to set it right while there was still time to enjoy a piece of it. The audiences can expect evenings of beautiful music, including such memorable songs as “A Weekend in the Country”, and “Send in the Clowns”.

The cast includes Brent Bateman, Julia Cossman, and Mickey Belden, and features singers from UAA’s Opera Ensemble.   The Department of Music’s Mari Hahn provides the musical direction and Karen Strid-Chadwick plays one of the pianos; Kristen Vierthaler is the choreographer and Tom Skore directs.

"A Little Night Music" opens the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 25, and runs through December 11, Friday and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, and Sundays at 3:00 PM. For ticket information and reservations call the UAA Theatre & Dance Box Office at 786-4TIX (4849).

Special Preview Night Performance! Our Preview Night/Dress Rehearsal performance on Thanksgiving, November 24th will be a benefit for the Red Cross. Donations will be taken at the door for admittance into the rehearsal performance.
