The UAA Alumni association presented its most visible gift to UAA with the official dedication of the UAA/APA Consortium Library’s Foucault pendulum Oct. 12.
The pendulum, believed to be the world’s northernmost, is the centerpiece of the new library and perhaps its most eye-catching feature.
The ceremony featured short speeches by UAA Chancellor Elaine Maimon; Merrilee Harrell, president of the association’s board of directors; and Daryl Royce, the association’s past president.
Harrell also presented Maimon with a plaque commemorating the presentation. The pendulum was funded with donations from the Alumni Association.
To help recoup its cost, the association is selling “degrees” — 360 personalized tiles that will be placed around the rim of the pendulum circle.
To date the association has sold approximately 140 degrees. Anyone interested in purchasing a degree should contact David Woodley.
