| ELS Module I Basics of Employment Law This refresher session on the basics of employment law, as well as university policy and regulation will keep you up-to-date on this important and continuously changing field. | ELS Module II Effective Leadership Styles Fostering a team environment with your employees encourages them to bring their ideas forward, improves communication and motivates employees to contribute. This module will identify your leadership style utilizing the Blanchards situational leadership model. |
| ELS Module III Organizing an Effective Department Tie your department’s mission and goals to employee outcomes. Learn techniques in effectively writing position descriptions; understand job families and describing work. Gain insights into the motivating aspects of job design; core job characteristics, critical psychological states, and affective & behavior outcomes. | ELS Module IV Recruiting a Star Employee As we all know, finding the right employee for your organization is the first step in building a productive team. Leaders will review the UA Recruitment Policy and Regulations, identify valuable diverse recruiting resources, review stages of screening, interview do's and don'ts, how to conduct an effective reference check and the proper way to orienting your new employee. |
| ELS Module V Taking Your Team to New Heights Examining your team, their roles within the team, and how they interact in the team is vital to creating a productive work environment for leaders. This module will review the UAA mission and organizational structures, how department goals fit into the bigger picture and how your team can successfully advance the organizational Strategic Guide. Offered February 22, 2008 8:30-12:30 pm RH 207 | ELS Module VI Communication Styles for Yourself and Your Team Effective communication with your team is critical in an environment where performance management, innovation, and coordination of effort is used for managing expectations. Leaders will have an opportunity to review their communication and decision making styles, and identify potential ways to improve their team’s productivity through effective communication. | ELS Module VII Motivating and Coaching for Performance Excellence The success of a coach is demonstrated by the performance of their team. This module will focus on ways to enhance the leader’s skill set for creating an environment that motivates employees through the effective use of feedback, performance management, and coaching, even in difficult times. Offered April 24, 2008 8:30 - 12:30 pm RH 207B | ELS Module VIII A - Z Employee Retention When an employee resigns is not the time to ask them “what could I have done differently?” It is too late! | Enhancing Leadership Skills This track is aimed at fostering a broad perspective of the university and promoting skill development that enhances a current or future leader's effectiveness. These modules will enhance your leadership skills which will continue to move UAA forward as a university of first choice. |
