Making Financial Aid Adjustments
Some things to know:
- You may only receive financial aid up to cost of Attendance.
- At UAA you must have completed a FAFSA to be eligible for loans.
- Some loans such as Stafford Loans have a yearly limit on the amount you can receive.
- If you previously declined your Stafford federal loans and would like to reinstate them, Entrance Loan Counseling must be completed prior to disbursement of those loans.
- The amount of your loan “Awards” is a yearly amount and will be divided into at least two disbursements, usually one in Fall and the other in Spring.
- You need to do a Promissory Note for each type of loan program type.
- Your eligibility for loans may change if you get financial aid from other sources such as scholarships, tuition waivers, military educational benefits, etc.
- Grants are set to automatically be accepted – its free money you don’t have to pay back. No need to accept them.
- The Alaska Supplemental Loan is a type of Alternative Loan. You may choose another alternative loan but you will need to let us know by filling out a Revision Request.
- Changes for Summer cannot be submitted until AFTER you register for summer classes. There is a separate Summer Revision Request form as well.
| How to Make Changes To Your Financial Aid - You will get an initial Financial Aid Award letter notifying you of your awards. You must then go into UAonline to either accept or decline them. Detailed instructions
- You must turn in a Revision Request form if you wish to make any changes after you accept or decline an award on UAonline. Download the the form and fill it out completely.
- Be sure to write in the amount you WANT for each semester.
- If you don’t know how much you are eligible for call the student assistance line at 786-1480, or your awards are also listed on your initial Financial Aid Award Letter.
- Be sure to write in the amount next to the correct loan type.
- If you haven’t already done a promissory note for that loan, you will need choose a lender and do one before your loans will pay. Detailed instructions on completing a Master Promissory Note
- It always helps if the student writes what they want in the comments section.

Common Mistakes
- Doing a Master Promissory Note without doing a Revision Request Form
- Doing a Revision Request Form without doing a Master Promissory Note
- Doing multiple Promissory Notes with different lenders. Choose ONE lender for each type of loan. (Both Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans are covered under one Promissory Note).
- Doing multiple Promissory Notes with different lenders will NOT get you additional monies
- Doing the WRONG Promissory Note. Know the type of loan you are offered and do the corresponding Loan application
